About me

I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology from Baylor University, and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Houston.  My post graduate studies are in theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Dallas Theological Seminary. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and am certified as a supervisor and supervisor trainer with the State of Texas.  I also teach psychotherapy practice courses at the UH Graduate School of Social Work.

Throughout my career, I’ve developed expertise with many populations, issues, and treatment approaches.  My specialty is helping adults and adolescents with an emphasis in psychological flexibility and mindfulness.  I believe in therapy centered around value-guided, committed action and biblical principles.

I have been married to my lovely wife Lotus for 36 years, and have a daughter, three wonderful grandchildren, and 2 dogs. In my off hours you will most likely find me on my motorcycle, enjoying time with friends, or reading a good book.

I understand that my abilities as a counselor are gifts from God as part of my calling to bring restoration to the hurting.  I ground my work in Biblical principles, and it is my distinct pleasure to work with those that God leads to my office.

What others are saying

Dr. Farzam Afshar

Brent LoCaste-Wilken is the most amazing counselor I have had the privilege of collaborating with throughout my career. He provides professional and compassionate care for every client he works with. His expertise branch out in many areas. His effective skills both in the science and art of counseling have made a significant difference in the lives of couples and individuals for which we have collaborated on throughout the years... It is a huge honorand privilege to recommend Brent.

Lori

Client

Brent has been working with my 15-year-old son for about 2 to 3 years, usually once a week. To say that Brent has made a difference in my son’s life is not a strong enough statement. When Brent told my son he thought Jackson could stop seeing Brent, my son said “absolutely not” that he needed to always go see Brent.

When he has trouble he won’t talk to me, he always says “I will talk to Brent about it mom”. I have no idea what we would do without him!

I've got answers.

A list of important and often asked questions. Have another question not listed? Ask using the contact form.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy involves exploring issues and concerns and then applying appropriate and effective interventions. Talking to a therapist is about opening up about what is going on in your life, letting an outside person come in and offer another perspective.

How much does therapy cost?

If you are using your medical/mental health insurance, the costs can vary.  Your copay depends on your distinct insurance plan.  You may also be subject to a deductible that must be paid before your copay. My staff will verify your insurance and inform you of what the costs are to you.

If you are paying cash for your session the costs are as follows:

Initial assessment $300, Follow up sessions $225/hour.

There are other fees for services such as phone consultation, crisis intervention, and additional paperwork. Please inquire with me about these costs as needed.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I am a member of the provider panels of many of the major insurance companies. Please, check with my staff to ensure that I do indeed take your insurance.

How many sessions will I need to have?

There are no guarantees as each situation is different. Some goals may be reached in a session or two, while others may require ongoing commitment to the therapeutic process. It is important that you discuss any questions, concerns, or discomfort you are having regarding the therapeutic process.

Do you do in-person and virtual sessions?

Yes, I prefer to see my clients in person. However, I offer both services as a convenience to my clients when clinically approriate.

How do you handle cancellations and missed appointments?

All no-shows and late cancellations will be charged the full cost of the scheduled session. Sessions must be cancelled at least 2 business days prior to the session.

Will I be able to reach you in an emergency?

Yes, I will provide a phone number that you may call or text me anytime as well as an encrypted email. I will do my best to contact you in a timely manner, but as you can imagine there are times when I am not immediately available such as when I am in session, church, or engaged with family and friends in very public places.

How do you work with parents of child clients?

Parents of a client are extremely important and a normal part of therapy with children/adolescents. They are expected to be actively involved in the therapeutic process and in support of changes that may need to be made at home.

Are my sessions confidential?

All interactions between me and my clients are confidential. I cannot and will not disclose any information about my clients without permission.
